Johnny’s New York Style Pizza was originally started in 1965 by Johnny Pace in Manlius, NY. It was here that Bruce Jackson got his start in the pizzeria at the age of 16. In just 3 short years, Bruce had worked up the appetite for ownership and opened a Johnny’s Pizza just off the Syracuse University campus with Johnny’s younger brother Rosario. After 6 years of success at this location, Bruce and his new partner, Scott Allen, were ready for a move to warmer weather! Atlanta, Georgia is where they landed and as they say… “the rest is history!”
In the spring of 1977, Bruce and Scott opened their first location in Forest Park, Georgia. It was open for less than a year when they decided to move the location to a small shopping center on Virginia Avenue in East Point, across the street from the Atlanta Airport. With very little money left they wrote ‘Now Open’ on a pizza box, stuck it in the front window and started selling pizza. This location proved to be a huge success and just over one year later a second store was opened on Cheshire Bridge Rd in Atlanta. Both of these locations still exist today, although the Virginia Avenue location has moved once again down the street into the city of Hapeville.
Between 1984 and 1994, four more licensed locations were opened in the Atlanta area. Being the entrepreneurs that they are, and seeing the potential of the brand, Bruce and Scott began Franchising in 1994. Johnny’s Pizza has since spread across the state of Georgia from Columbus to Cartersville, Douglas to Dawsonville, Carrollton to Covington and everywhere in between
In 2003, Johnny Brusco’s New York Style Pizza was created for opening franchises outside the state of Georgia. There is no difference between the two brands, we just needed a unique name to operate on a national level… so we gave Johnny a last name and Johnny Brusco’s was born!
